The origins: a long-standing passion
1975
The story of Bar Gelateria Nettuno traces its roots back to the time when Armando Giordano, born in 1940, took his first steps into the world of cafés and ice cream parlors while working at Bar Varese in Salerno.
It was there that he discovered what would become his lifelong passion: the art of artisanal gelato.
Driven by determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, in the spring of 1975, Armando took over the management of an establishment already known as Bar Nettuno, located at 136/138 Lungomare Trieste.
That moment marked the beginning of a journey that would establish a long-standing tradition, one that continues to this day.
The Inspiration
Late 70s
In the late 1970s, Armando was the first in Salerno to recognize the potential of a specialty that was little known in the city at the time: “brioche with gelato“, a treat widely enjoyed, above all, in Sicily.
He did not simply offer it; he developed an exclusive recipe to create a soft, fragrant brioche the perfect match to enhance the artisanal gelato.
Today, just as in the past, this brioche remains a signature of Bar Nettuno and one of its most beloved products, cherished far beyond Salerno.
Alongside the gelato counter, Armando decided to add a savory food section (“rosticceria”), enriching the establishment’s offerings and making it a go-to spot for anyone seeking a quick yet high-quality break.
The legacy: the second generation
1980
In the late 1980s, Armando was joined by his son Vittorio, who now leads the business.
Vittorio brought a more creative, personal touch to the workshop, particularly in the creation of marbled flavors.
Among these, the famous “Nocciotella” stands out, having become one of the gelateria’s most sought-after and recognizable flavors.
A growing history
2009 – 2020
In 2009, a second location opened in Salerno, specifically in the Torrione district, where the workshop was relocated and a small dedicated retail outlet was established.
This was a significant step that enabled the business to boost production capacity and further refine its internal organization.
Since 2020, Vittorio has been joined by his children, Armando and Gaia, representing the third generation of the Giordano family.
Driven by continuous training and a passion passed down through the family, they bring fresh energy to the business, aiming to steer Bar Nettuno into the future while remaining true to its historic identity.
